Reiki balances our energetic body, which is comprised of the chakras. Our chakras are energy centers which correspond to our major organs and endocrine functions. When the energy in those areas becomes weak, blocked or over-stimulated, it may lead to symptoms of physical, emotional or spiritual imbalance. Reiki heals and restores the chakras to a balanced or open state by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the energy field in and around the physical body. In so doing, Reiki clears and heals the energy pathways, allowing the life forces to flow.
What is a Reiki session like?
A session is approximately 75 minutes long. As you arrive for your first session, I will have a brief form for you to fill out. We will then spend a few minutes discussing any particular problems or issues that you are experiencing and what you are hoping to achieve from your session. During this time we will also choose an aromatherapy blend to enhance your session.
For the actual session, you will rest comfortably on a massage table on your back with your shoes removed. An aromatherapy blend will be diffused for balance and well-being. The session will then proceed with a guided meditation and a combination of Reiki hand positions. Most of the hand positions will be hands-on, where I apply light touch during the session. For a few positions, I will hold my hands slightly above your body.
Reiki feels like a spiritual massage, creating a meditative healing state - similar to deep meditation. During your Reiki session, you might feel a warming sensation or a tingling or nothing at all but sheer relaxation. The session is very pleasant, relaxing and invigorating. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy, both a science and an art, is the use of plant-based essential oils to balance the mind, body, and spirit. An essential oil is a volatile liquid extracted from various plant parts by steam distillation. Those aromatic plant parts may be the root, seed, leaf, flower, peel, bark, resin, wood, fruit, or berry.
When the aroma of essential oils is inhaled, the scent travels to the reticular system of the brain stem where emotions and memories are connected. This enables essential oils to improve emotional wellness in many ways.
Smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe—the emotional control center—of the brain. From anxiety to tension, fatigue to stress, essential oils have long been appreciated for their uplifting, calming, and clarifying effects on emotional wellness. By diffusing essential oils or applying them topically, therapeutic constituents re-establish balance where stress or mental discomfort has disrupted healthy emotional function. The result is a sense of emotional balance and well-being.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is a great tool for stress reduction and relaxation. Many people use Reiki for wellness, not just to assist in healing. A session balances the chakras energy, triggering the body's relaxation response, leading to a calmer physical and emotional state. People who are feeling fatigued or who are recovering from illness or injury also benefit from receiving Reiki because it stimulates blocked areas to promote healing, reduce pain or discomfort and promote a sense of well-being.
Reiki is a great tool to use as a complement to traditional and alternative medicine, and is practiced in many hospitals, medical care and therapeutic settings. Reiki can be done on children and animals to help soothe and comfort pain, injuries or anxiety. Reiki is not a cure for a disease or illness, but it may assist the body in creating an environment that may facilitate healing.
How often should I receive a Reiki?
I recommend following your inner guidance. You know yourself better than anyone else. For myself, I have a regular rhythm of self care that includes receiving Reiki, massage and daily meditation. Just like meditation and massage, the effects of Reiki are cumulative. While one Reiki session can work wonders, regular Reiki treatments can change your life in a positive way. I do recommend that when going through a particularly difficult or challenging situation that you receive more frequent sessions.
The Seven Chakras and Reiki
The word "chakra" meaning wheel dates back to between 600-2,000 BC from ancient Indian culture. The seven main chakras, which are aligned with the spine, are considered to be the centers of energy within a human body and correspond directly to our feelings, emotions and behavior characteristics.
The chakras are envisioned as swirling, funnel shaped vortexes that open out from our physical body into our aura. These constantly rotating funnels are the energy processors of our body. They draw in energy from the outside into our body. The seven main chakras are also commonly associated with organs and bodily functions and are represented by colors and are numbered 1 to 7.
Just as blocks are created in the aura, they can also be created in the chakras. These blocks cause the chakras to slow down or speed up their rotation which then interferes with the amount of energy being supplied to the body, which then adversely affects the associated glands and organs. This also can have a negative effect on our mental-emotional health. A person's body, mind and spiritual well-being are balanced and healthy when all of their chakras are clear. When Reiki energy is given to the chakras, blocks are cleared, so that the chakras rotate at the ideal speed and provide optimum energy to the organs ensuring physical and mental and emotional well-being.
